Concert: “Sorolla: A musical imaginary”
07/10/2023 / 12:00 - 13:00
As a tribute to the figure of Velázquez Bosco and the music that was heard in the Madrid of his time, the festival “Retiro Sound. Piano, jazz and varietés in the Madrid of Velázquez Bosco” offers a series of open-air concerts in a unique setting: the complex of the Velázquez Palace, the Crystal Palace and the pond of the Retiro Park, outstanding work of the architect Velázquez Bosco.
Like Ricardo Velázquez Bosco, the painter Joaquín Sorolla (1863-1923) was part of a prolific generation of artists who, without being born in Madrid, lived and developed their work in our city. Also deceased in 1923—a few days apart from Velázquez Bosco—the figure of Sorolla stars in this recital that connects, like Paula Coronas’ concert at this same festival, two artistic disciplines that are apparently distant but share the same criteria. aesthetics of the centuries.
