The library was inaugurated on April 29, 2013 in a building that originally belonged to the old Casa de Fieras or House of Beasts, a zoo. The project included the restoration of two of the original pavilions and the building of a new one to house the book collection and also the countless activities scheduled. Worthy of note is the treatment given to the old cages, whose spaces have been replaced by glass cubes that extend towards the park. This library is the busiest in Madrid and has become a living witness to the interest of the city’s citizens in reading, their love of books and the space that houses them: the Parque del Buen Retiro.
